Kamloops Crane Operator Classes - Crane operator training is for operators and supervisors of overhead lifting machine. The course is suitable for both new and current operators. Course content includes applicable federal, provincial and state safety regulations. The first part of training includes comprehensive in-class lessons and exam. Following that is a hands-on customized session with practical instruction and evaluation.

Course content applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting equipment. Specific instruction would concentrate on aspects of crane operation used at the trainee's workplace. Upon finishing the course, trainees will know how to operate specific overhead lifting devices, attachments and related components in a safe and efficient manner.

The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits that an operator could develop when operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment could be avoided with right habits. Training reduces the likelihood of a workplace injury or incident occurring.

The course will encompass around eight hours of classroom instruction with a couple of hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants are graded on their knowledge of training material through an assessment of their practical knowledge and written testing. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.

During the in-class session, participants would know applicable causes of damages and occurrences, guidelines and legislation, internal responsibility, hazard awareness, design principles and basic equipment, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, pre-shift equipment inspections, safe hoisting/operating techniques, types of hardware, equipment applications/rigging, operator/pedestrian safety, hitches and angles, hand signals for operators and slingers, flipping/turning loads safely.

The practical training and evaluation part of the course should be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training would be held at the trainees' facility. The length of this practical training component is one to two hours. Two operators at a time will be trained by the instructor on skills such as planning the lift, proper rigging practices and safe operation.

Upon completion of the practical operating instruction and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee will write an exam. Signed safety rules would be required from each participant. Individual wallet certificates would be given to trainees who are successful. A framed wall certificate would be provided to the company.
